The Barbara Lackore Writing Contest

The Oldham County Republican Women’s Club is sponsoring it’s second annual writing contest. The contest has been named - The Barbara Lackore Writing Contest - in memory of long time member Barbara Lackore. Barbara was very outspoken about her Republican beliefs and would talk to anyone about politics. She often wore political attire to the grocery store as well as to the hospital in her later years. She was always ready to have the conversation that her clothing might inspire. She often wrote letters to the editor to promote her political opinions and enjoyed sharing her wealth of knowledge with new club members.

The Barbara Lackore Writing Contest is open to any high school student with no gender or political affiliation restrictions. The student must reside in Oldham County is the only criteria. The winner will receive $500 and will be honored at our Spring Brunch Social. The Contest is offered to promote civic engagement with Oldham County students.

Anyone who would like to donate to the Barbara Lackore Writing Contest can issue a check, payable to the Oldham County Republican Women’s Club (OCRWC) and indicate on the check, “Barbara Lackore Writing Contest”.
